While Friday and Saturday usually get most of the attention when it comes to CDMX nightlife, Sunday has developed a scene of its own. And if you’re into house music, rooftop views, sunsets and meeting people from around the world, Sunset Music Sessions offers a different way to close out the weekend.
Every Sunday, Sunset brings together locals, travelers and people who have recently made Mexico City their home for an afternoon that starts under the sun and gradually turns into a full-on night out.
The concept is simple: come for the sunset, stay for the party.
What Is Sunset Music Sessions?
Sunset Music Sessions is a weekly Sunday house music party in Mexico City created by La Fête Sauvage and Alta Facha.
Unlike a traditional nightclub, where the night might not really get started until midnight, Sunset begins at 3 PM.
That changes the entire experience.
You can arrive while it’s still daylight, grab a drink, find a table, meet some people and watch the atmosphere build as the sun begins to set over Mexico City.
Then the lights come on, the music gets louder and the rooftop gradually turns into a nighttime party.
Sunset normally runs from 3 PM to midnight, although special editions, collaborations and takeovers may have different schedules.
A Rooftop Party With a View of Mexico City
The venue is located at Isabel La Católica 68, in the Historic Center of Mexico City.
One of the biggest reasons to arrive early is the rooftop itself.
The space is open-air, with views across downtown Mexico City and a direct view of the iconic Torre Latinoamericana. As the afternoon progresses, you can watch the city change from daylight to sunset and eventually to the lights of downtown at night.
There is also a designated smoking area and plenty of open space throughout the venue.
What Kind of Music Can You Expect?
Sunset focuses primarily on house and electronic music, with resident and guest DJs playing throughout the afternoon and evening.
The music is an important part of the experience, but Sunset isn’t designed only around a headlining DJ.
The idea is to create an environment where the music, rooftop, sunset and crowd all contribute to the party.
Depending on the week, you may also find special collaborations, label takeovers and different guest lineups.
Is Sunset Good for Solo Travelers?
Absolutely.
In fact, coming alone is completely normal.
La Fête Sauvage was built around connecting travelers and locals through social experiences in Mexico City, and that philosophy became an important part of Sunset.
Part of the inspiration for creating the event came from a simple question we kept hearing after our Saturday Xochimilco Boat Parties:
“What’s happening tomorrow?”
Sunset became our Sunday answer.
You don’t need to arrive with a big group or know anyone beforehand. The atmosphere is social, people move around the rooftop throughout the afternoon, and it’s common to meet other travelers and Mexico City locals during the event.
If you’re traveling solo and wondering where to party in Mexico City, Sunday might actually be one of the easiest days to meet people.
What Time Should You Arrive?
If you want the full Sunset experience, we recommend arriving early.
Doors open at 3 PM, and Early Entry tickets cost $200 MXN.
Arriving during the afternoon gives you time to get settled, enjoy the rooftop while it’s still sunny and experience the transition from daytime drinks to sunset and finally the nighttime party.
General admission is $300 MXN.
Your ticket includes admission to the event. Drinks, food and bottle service are purchased separately.
Food and Drinks
You don’t have to leave the rooftop when you get hungry.
Food is available throughout the event, with casual options such as burgers, wings, boneless wings, wraps, hot dogs and other snacks.
Drinks can be ordered directly from the bar, but if you’re coming with friends, bottle service can be a more convenient option and gives you access to more exclusive table options.
Regular tables are assigned based on availability as guests arrive, so arriving earlier also gives you more options.
What Should You Wear?
There is no dress code at Sunset Music Sessions.
Come comfortable and ready to spend the afternoon and evening dancing.
For security reasons, however, large bags and certain items such as caps may need to be left at the coat check before entering the main party area.
The event is 18+.
Can You Smoke or Vape?
Sunset has a designated smoking area.
Vaping, however, is not permitted inside the venue in accordance with current regulations in Mexico.
A Different Side of Mexico City Nightlife
Mexico City has no shortage of clubs, bars and late-night parties.
Sunset offers something slightly different.
Instead of waiting until midnight to start your night, you can spend Sunday afternoon on a rooftop, watch the sun go down behind the city, listen to house music and meet people you might end up spending the rest of your trip with.
